Continuous Silence v2 Released
Continuous Silence v2 Released
January 18, 2014 18 Comments on Continuous Silence v2 ReleasedI have released a new version of Continuous Silence. This is a major overhaul of the application that targets Windows 8, but should still be compatible with earlier Windows versions. This version includes the ability to select the sound output device that will play the silence sound. I hope this helps out those folks that were having trouble getting this to work for them. Sorry about the long delay in getting this updated, the original was an evening project and I lost the source code for it, so that made it hard to do a new version. I will be able to more easily update it if any other problems arrive. Please let me know about any problems you encounter.

Hi. Thank you for this update. I just found your posts on the Logitech forums a few hours ago under the Logitech Z-5500 section. I am hoping this will help with them from randomly shutting off. I sent Logitech a support email a few minutes ago to see if they may have a firmware update or some kind of solution yet since this is 2014.
Your software does seem to be working fine so far. I am using Windows 7 Pro x64. I was able to see all of the sound card options just fine and well, I will let you know if this keeps both of the systems on. I do not use my systems for HD channel or for the cable box. Only PC using Optical output, an external sound card, and a nice splitter. =)
Hi again. This is an update. Using your application has reduced the amount of times it turns itself off. Both control pods no longer say “No Digital Data”. The only time one or the other may shut off is if I go into a game or some other media which may not support 5.1 surround sound or has trouble switching between 2.1 and 5.1 is what I am guessing it could be but that may happen once or twice now a days thanks to your application! The only issue with your application, which is a minor one, is that sometimes upon Windows startup, a message comes up and says that continuous silence cannot detect the sound card or something along those lines, so I have to go to Options in the application and choose another sound card and switch it back which makes it detect it again. I can even make a video of this if you like. Do you have an option to donate to you? Have an amazing 2014! =)
No need for a donation, I’m glad to be able to put a simple utility like this out there for free that is helpful to people. For your start up issue, I’m interested in finding out more, what sound card are you using? Is it on your motherboard, an add in card or USB? Are you using manufacturer drivers or drivers that came with windows? When you do have to repick a sound card output from the options, are the options the same as the previous time or have they changed in name, quantity or order?
Hello. That’s cool about you helping others, where you can, for free. I was using my onboard audio built into the motherboard and the drivers from what Windows found I do believe or I used a disk for those, but then I switched to a new Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi 5.1 Pro USB external card. The model number is: SB1095. I used the drivers from the disk on the new one. The drivers must still be installed from the onbaord audio as it looks like they show up in the Applications Options when choosing a Sound Output. I have included a link to a screen shot showing the options. May have to zoom in or choose to see it as it was originally taken on Photo Bucket. None of the sound options change. The list is always the same (name, quantity, etc..) I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any other information! =)
Hello dude, i used your program today but it doesn’t work for me. The program runs fine but when i select the output device i still get “No Digital Data”.
Specs:
Win 8.1 x64
Realtek HD on board soundcard.
Did you try all of the possible Audio Output devices in the options? (You have to click save before it actually does anything.)
Yep, i tried all of them and saved them and it doesn’t work. I’m using the Coax Input not Optical.
Edit: I found the problem. The wave file that you include with the program is playing but even opening with Windows Media Player it’s the same. So i changed “silence” with a normal wave sound for test and it kept playing it and repeating. So i/we need a proper wave file which actually play but make no sound.
Sorry for the triple posting. I made my own wave sound and now it works. So here’s my version.

Hey Makis. Just letting you know, I am trying out your wav file too. So far, it says Digital for me too. Thanks for sharing what you made. =)
Wow! My last post or comment was back in February. Doesn’t seem that long ago. Phew. o.O
Nice work, I occasionally got people that could get it to work and never could figure out why… If you don’t mind, I’ll a new version including your WAV file…
Yea for sure!
Hello again,
How’s the tool on windows 10 anybody tried? Also can you update your links because downloads are broken?
Thanks
In Windows 10 you need to choose the opposite output device to get Z-5500 working. I had to pick my headset output to make it work..
I can confirm this for windows 10.. I had to chose the wrong nvidia digital output device to get it to work with my onboard digital audio output.
Hi,
The download link is broken and I am getting a 404.
Thanks!
Thanks, for the heads up, got this fixed.
can someone make the sound file longer or continously?
every time the sound loops (about 13 seconds)
i hear a little “tick” on my headphones
